Mt. Maynoba | Newly opened mountain in Tanay

I saw many pictures in social media accounts about this newly opened mountain last March 2016 in the municipality of Tanay, Rizal. We all know that the province of Rizal is known as one of the so called Mountainous part of the Philippines for having so many tourist attractions in terms of mountains, falls, river and other outdoor activities. Since it's a one (1) month old and you're planning to hike this mountain, make sure to maintain its natural beauty, always implement "Leave No Trace" policy and be friendly to local people.

How to get there : You have two options in terms of route, (1) Ride a van or jeepney in front of Starmall (Shaw), fare is Php 70.00 with a 1 1/2 hrs. travel time. Once you arrived in Tanay Market, ride another jeepney bound for Sampaloc then drop off at Batangasan. Lastly, ride a tricycle going to registration area in Brgy. Cayabu (Php 100.oo per group of 4 with additional 30 mins. travel time). (2) Ride a jeepney (Php 24.00) or van (Php 35.00) in Cubao (Gateway/ Puregold) going to Cogeo Gate 2 (Antipolo), 1 hr. travel time. Once in Cogeo, ride a jeepney going to Sampaloc and tell the driver to drop you off at Batangasan/Batangas, fare is Php 42.00 (1 hr.) Ride a tricycle going to Brgy. Cayabu and drop off at registration area, fare is Php 200.00 per group of 4 persons/fixed rate.

Note: Last trip via public vehicle
Cogeo (gate2) to (Sampaloc) Batangasan - 7:30 pm
Batangasan to Cogeo Gate 2 - 6:30 pm

Mt. Maynoba is under the management of Tanay Tourism Office so it is required to request for a permit. You can contact this people who are in-charged of this new attraction in Tanay. And before you visit this place, make sure that you coordinated first with them to prevent some problems that can cause of delays.

Mt. Maynoba has something to offer when it comes to waterfalls. The local people found out that there are "8 Waterfalls" within the vicinity of this mountain (traverse). So if you're planning for a dayhike trip, better visit Brgy. Cayabu as early as 5AM to maximize your time and having a possibility in seeing these 8 hidden waterfalls of Tanay, Rizal

Personal Insights: I must admit that when you travel in "Do It Yourself" way, it's hard to follow your itinerary.  A lot of travel delay is caused by transportation. We started our journey at exactly 10:30 PM from our house going to Novaliches then Cubao. We arrived in Cubao at exactly 12 midnight and we rode in a van going to Cogeo Gate 2. I did research about transportation from Cogeo to Batangasan but the last trip isn't included so we ended up waiting for an hour after we arrived in Cogeo. Luckily, there were also a group of people in DiY way just like us so we rode in a Jeepney and pay Php 100.00 each (not bad). We arrived 1:30 AM in Batangasan and I was shocked by the fare increase of tricycle bound for Brgy. Cayabu. From Php 25.00 each to Php 50.oo (Php 200.00 fixed rate/group of 4) but it's okay because it's actually far from my expectation. We arrived in Brgy. Cayabu around 2 AM and as expected , the registration area was crowded by hikers including us.

We decided to take Twin Hike to witness itself the what they called Maynoba Circuit. We took the route going to My. Cayabu. We reached its summit around 3 AM and it was still dark that time. The only things that we saw on top was the drum, the bamboo-made bench and the moon. These are the photos which I took after traverse and went back to this route.

You can start trekking as early as "3 AM" as per advised by Kuya Ronald when I got a chance to talk to him thru his Facebook account.

Our experience on Mt. Maynoba's peak was epic. There's no sea of clouds and as usual, we witnessed sea of crowds.  It rained heavily by the time we waited for the sunrise and that was a funny moment. We did not wait for it to stop instead we headed to start our traverse adventure going to 8 waterfalls.
