Inside National Museum

National Museum of the Philippines (Pambansang Museo ng Pilipinas) is the museum of Filipino people, established in 1901 as an ethnography and natural history museum. It's a government institution in the Philippines and serves as an educational, scientific and cultural institution in preserving the various permanent national collections such as ethnographic archaeological, anthropological and  visual artistry of the Philippines. It is located in Padre Burgos Ave. Rizal Park Ermita, Manila. From LRT 1 UN Ave. station, just walk all the way and you'll find yourself near National Museum. 

Philippine National Museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for FREE !

How to get there: [Option 1] The best way is to ride in a railway (LRT 1) then drop off at U.N Avenue Station /Php 30.00, just walk all the way to Rizal Park [Option 2] From Blumentritt, ride a jeepney bound for Pier/Kalaw/Sta.Cruz  then drop off near Rizal Park,  / Php 21.00.

The Spoliarium by Juan Luna is considered as one of the most precious and famous paintings in the Philippines. It stands at 4.22 meters x 7.675 meters dimension making it the largest painting in the Philippines. It was made in 1884 as an entry to the prestigious Exposicion de Bellas Artes in Spain. Luna's entry won the First Gold Medal in Madrid Art Exposition 1884. This painting is displayed in the old  House of Representative Session Hall in National Museum.

These sculptures are  displayed in the hallway of old House of Representatives  Session Hall. It is restricted 1 meter away from the tourist and prohibited to touch.

Abdulmari Asia Imao was declared as the 2006 National Artist for Visual Arts for making this Sarimanok made in Bronze.

There's a lot of paintings displayed in this building. It's more on visual arts, paintings, sculptures and many more. These paint brush was used by the national artist including Juan Luna.

Art Gallery (2nd level)

The National Artist Guillermo E. Tolentino works dominated the Filipino sculpture in the 1920's to 1970's. His works are displayed at Gallery XII also known as Security Bank Hall in the National Museum of the Philippines. He's also the famous sculptor of Oblation statue of the University of the Philippines and the Bonifacion Monument in Caloocan City.

Manunggul Jar is one of the most precious jars and a true example of majestic collections of the National Museum of the Philippines. It is displayed in the 3rd level / 2nd National Museum. It was found in Manunggul Cave in Lipuun, Palawan and the archaeologist believes that it was used as a secondary vessel excavated from a Neolithic burial site dating back 890 - 710 B.C.

National Artists of the Philippines (Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ng Pilipinas) are Filipinos who have made significant contribution to the development of the Philippine art. Their work of arts is displayed in the 3rd level of the National Museum. It represents different culture from different ethnic group all over the Philippines.
