Mt. Palay-Palay
Pico de Loro is actually part of a small mountain range known as Mt. Palay-Palay. It is considered to be one of the first choice travel spot near Manila and has gained popularity as a weekend getaway. This mountain is also known as Pico de Loro but sometimes mistakenly called as Mt. Pico de Loro. It is located in the boundaries of the municipality of Ternate, Cavite and Nasugbo, Batangas. It features lush forest, water stream, waterfalls and the famous Monolith as well as the Parrot's Beak.

The local Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced that on February 20, 2015, the old trail is effectively closed and it's now a protected area handled by this government sector. The new and official trail will be at DENR station itself.  They will collect a registration fee of Php 25.00 per person and the good thing is that tour guide is not mandatory.

How to get there: Ride a bus in Coastal Mall going to Ternate, Cavite, fare is Php 81.00 and will take a matter of 1 1/2 hours before you reach the municipality of Ternate. Tell the driver that you're going to Pico de Loro so that they know where to drop you off. Once you're there, ride a tricycle (the only public transportation allowed in that route) for a fixed rate of Php 250.00 per group with a travel time of 30 mins.

Water Stream
The Old trail is popular for having a waterfalls as a side trip. It's truly sad but this new trail has something to offer too. You'll see this hidden small waterfall with a shallow cleared catch basin. The water is very clean and well maintained, it is so cold just like the water in refrigerator and it's good for swimming because the basin is not deep.

New Trail
In my opinion, this new trail is not good for a beginner although it is easy but a bit misleading. There's a lot of trees that made the path a bit confusing. One thing that is beneficial here is that the forests protect the hikers from the sun. You might have the chance to see and encounter endemic animals along the trail.

Travel | Trio
The usual travel tip that we get from a traveler to escape the crowd is to go in a weekday basis and not in a weekend and holidays. In our case, we traveled in a rainy season and the outcome was great and memorable. It's not the typical getaway that you will experience, you'll feel the scorching sun on summit and huddling to crowd. Just like in these picture, we were able to enjoy and feel the parrot's beak alone. The best part here was we're having a good time on summit then a thick browned color clouds came to us and gave us a rainy experience on top. It's a surreal moment and very different from the other hiker's experience here in Pico de Loro.

Monolith
Monolith is the main reason why it became the most popular weekend getaway near Metro Manila. I guess the most famous rock formation on top of a mountain's summit here in the Philippines. You can actually go on top of this standing huge rock formation. It's definitely the main attraction of this trip.

Try this!
After the hiking and thrilling experience, try to relax in this water stream. As what I've said on the 2nd picture in this article, it's advisable to try this because the water is so clean and it will give you a refreshing feelings. This side trip will absolutely add a memorable experience with your friends.
