Mt. Sipit Ulang |
Wondering why this mountain called as Mt. Sipit Ulang ? Asking the meaning of Sipit and Ulang ? It is located in Brgy. Mascap, Rodriguez Rizal under the protection of AKFA Association (Ayaas Kayrufa Farmers Assn.) and Mascap Tourism Office.
The local people named it as Mt. Sipit Ulang because of its physical appearance. When you take a look closer to it, you will visualized the claw-like formation. Sipit term is came from "Claw" and Ulang is from a kind of shrimp with a claw. In other opinions, it's just like a "U" without any description.

It is the smallest mountain from the known "Pentalogy / Pentahike Mountains" with an elevation of 252+ and considered as a minor climb depending on the trail. You can do Twin hike with Mt. Ayaas or even Pentalogy during weekends. In terms of trail, you have two options (1) Paniki Trail (Pure) or Paniki Trail + Supertrail and the (2) new one (Banayad Trail). If you want something challenging and adventurous, better ask your guide to use the Paniki Trail. It will give you an exciting trail from cave-like pathway, a ladder in tow and more assault. It will take 2-3 hours to reach the summit. On the other hand, (2) new trail also known as Banayad trail is easier and made especially for the beginners. The trail is more of ascending in an easy way (unlike in Paniki) and it's just a matter of 1 hour to reach the peak.
How to get there: If you're planning to do twin hike, better to visit the place as early as 4 AM for you to escape the crowd. There is a terminal of UV Express (Rodriguez, Rizal) in Farmers, Cubao beside the Jollibee (Php 50.00), travel time is 1 1/2 hours before you reach the place. Tell the driver that you're going to Brgy. Mascap, drop off at San Isidro where you can hire a tricycle going to Brgy. Mascap (Php 150.00/5 persons-Fixed) and it will take a matter of 20 minutes before reaching the jump-off area. Once you arrived in Brgy. Mascap (Barangay Hall itself), register and pay an environmental fee of Php 50.00 per person. In terms of tour guide, you have two options (1) referred guide (2) in-charged guide on that specific date. You will pay a fixed rate guide fee of Php 500.00 per group (5-10 max.) for Mt. Ayaas and additional Php 400.00 for Mt. Sipit Ulang. If you want to try the Payaran Falls, you will pay an additional Php 200.00 per group.
Once you arrived in the peak, you will see the bench made of bamboo where you can take a rest and wait for your turn. Ask for an assistance before climbing the Sipit Ulang rock formation. It is advisable for the hiker to wear a gloves for the hand protection. The rocks have sharp tips and edges that can cause unwanted happenings. Mt. Sipit Ulang is exposed to sun so it is better if you put a sunscreen first before climbing those rocks.
