Bignay Bukid
Bignay is a barangay in Valenzuela City and it was named after a tree called Bignay or Antidesma Bunius that is plentiful in the area. It is located in the north-eastern part of Valenzuela and belongs to the 1st district. Its nearby places are Bulacan (Sto. Nino), Bagumbong (Caloocan City), Novaliches (Quezon City) and the other barangays of Valenzuela's 1st district.

How to get here:

Map of Valenzuela

Bukid is the best part of this Barangay where you can take a rest and enjoy the beauty of nature. I can still remember that this farmland was our favorite hangout when me and my friends were still in our high school days. It's the place where you can actually experience the total ambiance of peace and genuine happiness. During those days, the whole part of this land was used for farming, planting different kind of bearing fruit trees and some flora but due to unstoppable industrialization, almost 1/2 of it was used now by the local government of Valenzuela for the Disiplina Village. I'm afraid that because of what we called innovation, this might be the last glimpse of farmlands here in Brgy. Bignay. I believe that progression is good to many people but we must not forget that nature needs protection and preservation from all of this.

Farmland (Gitnang Bukid)
I believe that one of the creative human being in nature are farmers. We have the Banaue Rice Terraces (Hagdan-Hagdan Palayan) in Ifugao that was referred to as the Eight (8) wonder of the world in consideration of the hardships and creativity of the indigenous people in that province. Imagine, they built an extra-ordinary art with their bare hands only.

Zigzag Route
Rainy season is the best time to visit a farmland like this. You will enjoy the scenery of the landscape especially the rice seedlings. It's so relaxing to embrace the unpolluted breezy cool air and the aroma of the whole area.

Typical Farm Image

Bignay bukid is not just about the farmland itself. It has also something to offer when it comes to fishing. This small shallow water stream separated the north and south of this farmland area. There are different kind of fishes here such as Catfish, Tilapia, Dalag, Gurami and even a small shrimps.

The last Fishing Area
This was our real reason why we came here. We wanted to catch a fish so that we can share it together and eat it the same way just like before. There's no wall in that area before but because of Disiplina Village, they made it for a purpose.

Peng : The Fisherman
Waiting for a fish to be caught is like waiting for your forever. It's actually hard and you need a long patience in this kind of activity. While we were waiting, we took some pictures as our remembrance here before it's too late.

The Fishing Rod
The reality was we failed to catch at least one fish. Maybe our worms weren't tasty for those fishes under that shallow water stream. It ended up to be a typical exploration in this land. It's so cold and there were no people so it was like we owned it.

Stunning Scenery
Bukid
This is the view of Disiplina Village from afar. It's not yet done but you can see its progress. If I'm not mistaken, this village has its own school, covered court, health center facilities that made it alike to a Barangay community.

Disiplina Village
We decided to leave the area before before the place becomes dark to clean up ourselves. But before that, I took a shot of the sky and this is what I captured. It's like a Go-Pro shot but it was actually my Sony Xperia P that I used with a bit of enhancement especially in contrast.

Twilight
The Bignay Tree is also known as Bugnay or Bignai in some other provinces. It's like a cranberry or wild berry in other countries. It look likes like a small grape when ripe and its skin looks like a fuji apple when its still raw. It is known in the Philippines as a medicinal fruit. It is usually blooms and bear it fruits during rainy season from June up to August. Its not like before where you can see a lot of Bignay Trees in Brgy. Bignay but there are still some of it near our place and farmland. These are some of my photos of Bignay fruits taken last July 25, 2016.

Ang ganda naman puntahan niyan, bukod sa tahimik at fresh air na na meron diyan may shallow water pa na pwede kang manghuli ng isda para may libangan. Sana maimaintain ang disiplina diyan.

I was hoping if you are interested for an interview that we will post on our business travel blog at www.jacarandatravels.com (facebok page at www.fb.com/jacarandatravels).
