Mt. Hapunang Banoi is the considered as
the 2nd highest mountain in the Penatalogy Mountains of Brgy. Wawa
and Brgy. Mascap. It is under the protection of Wawa Tourism office in
maintaining its natural beauty and by giving livelihood to the local people of
Brgy. Wawa.
Mt. Hapunang Banoi |
It is located in
Brgy. Wawa, Rodriguez (formerly Montalban), Rizal. It’s one of the mainstream hiking destination
in Rizal since it is just 1- 2 hours away from the Metro Manila. Its accessible
24 hours in terms of transportation (commute) from Cubao up to Brgy. Wawa.
Mt. Hapunang
Banoi also known as Mt. Banoi is connected to the Mt. Pamitinan (3rd
highest mountain). Most of the hikers are doing twin hike (Banoi-Pamitinan)
since both mountain is situated in the same land. It features river crossing thru hanging
bridge, endemic flora and fauna, forest, rock formation, scenic view of
mountainous land of Rodriguez on top and a possible sea of clouds. This
mountain is not a minor climb. There’s a lot of sharp stones along the trail
particularly in part near the summit. It is advisable to wear a trekking shoes
and gloves to prevent hand and foot pain or irritation while hiking. The trail
is covered by the forest and rich in flora.

Registration
starts at exactly 4:30 AM. All climbers must pay Php 50.00 registration fee per
head and a donation per group (no specific amount). Tour guide is required and
should pay an amount of Php 500.00 fixed rate per group of 5 (1:5) whether it’s
a single mountain, twin hike or trilogy.
(!) TIP (!)
- Wawa Tourism Officer will be asking if you have a preferred guide, if YES, they will ask a proof like text conversation or Facebook chat that you really had transaction with that specific guide. The reason why is because the WTO just want to monitor the rotation of guiding service of 200 tour guides.
It wasn’t my
first time in Brgy. Wawa because I was able to climb Mt. Binacayan and Mt.
Pamitinan last year (November 2015). I am just shocked with the price increase
of registration fee in just a short period of time but I believe that this
additional amount will surely help the WTO in protecting and maintaining the
beauty of mountains.
(!) UPDATE (!)
- Registration Fee: Php 50.00 / head
- Donation: Depends on your group
I believe that
I’m not the only one who noticed that the tour guides of Brgy. Wawa are all
great photographers as well. They really know how to direct and get a good
angle for both subject and background that will make the picture very unique
and mind-blowing. We’re very lucky that we chose the right one and the best
tour guide so far in my hiking experience. He is kuya Ronald Tercenio, I would like to recommend this guy because he
provided us an excellent service in terms of taking good care of us and giving
us an amazing shots for everyone.

It was a great
day that time, it rained yesterday so we were expecting a possible sea of
clouds. We started our hike around 4:40 AM after the registration process. We
brought our own flashlight since it was still dark that time. I gave my camera
to kuya Ronald because I knew that he’s good in taking pictures as well. I just
took some nature photography for my Instagram and Facebook page post.
It was just a
matter of 1 ½ hour before we reached the summit. There’s a lot of assault near
the peak of Mt. Hapunang Banoi. We encountered many rock obstacles and
challenges (not advisable to bring your kids). The time when we’re almost near
the summit, we saw a glimpse of sea of clouds (my first time and take note,
it’s my 16th mountain). I’m excited to see it on top (actually all
of us) so we headed a bit faster because we’re afraid that it might disappear
in just a short period of time.
And this is it!
Mt. Hapunang Banoi welcomed us with an extraordinary view on top. A great
reason to just sit, relax and stare at this natural beauty of mountain. We were
the only group on summit at that time so we had a great selfies and groufies
(thanks to kuya Ronald). Sea of clouds is one of a kind and something to look
forward by mountaineers.

---Travel Photography----
(!) TIP (!)
- Hike as early as 4:30 AM
- Ask your preferred guide if there’s a possible SOC before your hike
(!) REMINDER (!)
- Don’t climb a mountain because you just want to witness a SEA OF CLOUDS. Do it because you loved what you’re doing and you’re passionate about it. Keep in mind that SOC is just a bonus factor in mountain climbing.
