Bataan : Exploring Heritage Churches

 Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish Church 

Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish Church is located in Orani, Bataan. It was declared as an independent parish on April 21, 1714. It is also known as Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Church.  It is a Neoclassical Diocesan Marian Shrine anf Pilgrimage church. It was also declared as a Dambana ng Paglalakbay on August 22, 2004. The church of Orani is under the jurisdiction of the Vicariate of St. Dominic de Guzman & Vicariate of our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Orani is also known as Virgen Milagrosa and a title of Blessed Virgin Mary.

St. Dominic Parish Church

St. Dominic Parish Church is also known as Abucay Church is located in Abucay, Bataan. It is a 17^th-century Baroque church. It was founded by the Dominican Friars in 1588 and is dedicated to Saint Dominic of Guzman. Major changes were made into the structure before the World War II. The church was also a witness to the massacre of hundreds of Filipinos and Spaniards by the Dutch invaders in June 1647.

Our Lady of Pillar Church 

Our Lady of Pillar Church is located in Pilar, Bataan. Its town was previously part of Pampanga and said to be one of the oldest towns of Bataan. The church was built of ood and nipa in 1801. The stone church was started in 1834 and was finished by 1885. 

St. Peter of Verona Parish Church 

St. Peter of Verona Parish Church is located in Hermosa, Bataan. It features baroque-style façade with stunning stained-glasses windows. It lies on the northern portion of the province of Bataan, Philippines. It’ just a 2 hours away from Manila. The town was established in 1976 by Dominican priests and it became an independent missionary center in 1756 with St. Peter de Verona as its patron saint.

St. Michael Parish Church 

San Miguel Archangel Parish Church (St. Michael Parish Church) is located in Orion, Bataan. It is also known as Orion Church and a 19^th-century baroque church. It was dedicated to Saint Michael the archangel. It is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Balanga. It was established by the Dominican Priests on 1667. It became an independent missionary center in 1667.

Balanga Church 

Balanga Church is located in Balanga, Bataan. It became an independent missionary center in 1739. It is a parochial ministration under the Filipino Clergy started on June 2, 1898. It is near to the famous Mt. Samat of Bataan.

St. Peter and Paul Parish Church 

St. Peter and Paul Parish Church is located in Balanga, Bataan. It’s one of the newest church built in Bataan. Its color is pure white and very engaging to see closely.

Travel Experience:

It was a Visita Iglesia event under the management of Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. last March 8, 2017. Bataan is rich in old churches that’s why it was chosen by the management to be the final location for the Visita Iglesia. 

We were all amazed by the churches that we saw personally. We’ve noticed that all of the churches that we visited is composed of different Saint Statues in front of the church. Gladly, we were able to see all of the churches accordingly to our itinerary.
