Mt. Daguldol's summit
Mt. Daguldol is located in Sitio Biga Brgy. Hugom San Juan, Batangas. The mountain is situated between the municipality of Lobo and San Juan. It is one of the most visited mountains in the said province for the reason that it’s just 4 hours away from the Metro Manila, good for beginners and has additional adventures after the hike such as falls, cave and even the beach side trip.

Mt. Daguldol gained its popularity because of its appealing New Zealand ambiance where the slope at the summit is a wide grassland. This mountain also features thick forest, rich in flora and fauna, a waterfall known as Naambon Falls and the beach side trip. The trail is well-established but some parts of it are a bit misleading that’s why local tour guide is required. This mountain has no Limatic but lot of different species of ant all throughout the trail instead. It is also rich in fruit-bearing trees such as Guava, Jackfruit and Mangoes.

Thick forest going to summit
It measures 672 MASL with a difficulty of 3/9 and considered as a minor climb according to pinoymountaineers. The established trail is a bit longer from the expectation that made it challenging and will take at least 3 hours to finish. The local people made at least 3 resting areas where hikers can use to regenerate and relax. A Chapel near the signage of Sitio Catmon is a sign that the hikers are at the “half” of their trek.  A small sari-sari store is place near the summit where the campsite area is also located. A source potable water is also located near the summit.

-Travel Trio’s Adventure-

It started actually as a failure. Tarak Ridge was really our target mountain but because I woke up late like around 7AM instead of 4AM and a rainy morning that day, we all agreed to cancel this trip. Instead, we met each other around 9AM to plan another itinerary for tomorrow (Sunday, November 19). Because we all wanted to push this trip, we decided to change our route from Bataan to Batangas – from Tarak Ridge to Mt. Daguldol. Take note, we left at exactly 12NN from our place knowing that it’s going to be a long ride. From Valenzuela to Kamuning, it took almost 2 hours so we arrived around 1:45PM. We bought our food in that area and luckily, the bus going to Lipa City that time was about to leave. We left the terminal around 2PM and we faced another long ride. We arrived at the Lipa Grand Terminal at exactly 5PM. At that time, we still don’t know where to go next because it wasn’t well-planned itinerary. We took a ride going to San Juan and don’t even know where to drop off. So we asked help from our friend who’s been there before. We all appreciated her effort to help us so THANK YOU @jannamanlangit.

We arrived at San Juan around 6PM and it was dark already. We don’t know if we will pursue the camping style or just wait for the sunrise and stay in a 24-hours quick service restaurant. We ate in a food chain and made another plan. If we decided to stay in San Juan, we will wait for a 10 long-boring hours but we can’t do that so we grabbed the option to take a tricycle ride going to Brgy. Hugom around 7PM. We were lucky to haggle a tricycle ride for Php 400.00 directly to Sitio Biga. We arrived at the jump-off area around 8:30PM. It’s already late so we asked the person-in-charge in registration area if we can pitch a tent to stay overnight and she told us to pay Php 100.00 per head. We thought it’s not practical to waste another Php 300.00 so we told them that we will do a night trek. We thought that guide fee is only Php 400.00 but the officer informed us that payment in a night trek basis is Php 500.00 so we agreed on that if that’s the rule.

We started our trek around 9PM and we were all sleepy at that time but we don’t have a choice but to push and continue the night trek. Surprisingly, the trail is breath-taking and tiring because it is longer from what our expectation was. The trail was muddy and slippery at that time that made our trek very challenging. Resting area was very helpful for all of us. We reached the summit at exactly 12AM, it was foggy and very cold. We thank our guide (Kuya Mario) for taking good care of us all throughout the trail. There were sleeping campers at that time in the campsite so we tone down our voice to avoid waking them up while assembling our tent. It was not a good sleep experience for us because the flooring of the tent is not that water proof (bring extra mat if you don’t want to experience the same scenario) and it was a cold night! We woke up at exactly 6AM, the whole grassland was covered by a thick fog and the place was very cold. We ate first our breakfast before we descend, our food was rice, corned beef and Vienna sausage (east cooking style).

We went first to Naambon Falls before leaving the mountain. We were lucky because there were no other hikers at that time. The waterfall is not that high but still beautiful. The water is clear and pristine. There are 3 shallow water basin where you can relax and enjoy the cold-freaking water.

After an hour, we left the falls and the mountain itself. Since we’re running out of time, we decided to just take selfies in the nearby beach resort for free but if you want to try the beach, pat Php 75.00 per head.

To make it short, we arrived in our house at exactly 7PM. It was a tiring adventure for all of us but very satisfying and a memorable one. Keep Hiking Travel Trio!
